Summer Adventures

Summer 2014 is going to be a busy one for us, with a variety of adventures, travels and great meals already planned for the next few months. Although we initially set out just to do restaurant reviews on our blog, we feel that with travelling for a month, it is a great opportunity to blog about our upcoming travel experiences and to add a travel section to scotlandeatsout.

Ok so now you are asking what we all have planned? After working pretty much flat out and saving any spare money we had we have managed to organise a summer we could only dream of. Below we will outline what we all have planned.

26th of May – 31st of May Great Glen way (Including Inverlochy Castle for lunchBeing an active couple we decided to take on the challenge of the 73 mile Great Glen Way walking from Fort William in the west to Inverness in the east, we aim to complete this in four days and will be staying in hostels and bed and breakfasts along the way. As the walk is beginning in Fort William we decided to treat ourselves to lunch at the Michelin starred restaurant at the stunning Inverlochy castle. Hopefully the rain stays away and the sun is out and we complete the walk with as little pain as possible (we pray).

2nd of June – 21st of June London and Eastern Europe Two days after completing our walk we fly to London and spend the day there before catching a flight to Sofia. While in London we luckily managed to get a lunch reservation at “Dinner by Heston Blumenthal”. The restaurant has not long been promoted to 5th best in the world so to say we are excited is an understatement. The following morning we fly from Gatwick to Sofia and from there our backpacking travels begin. We plan to visit, Sofia, Belgrade, Zagreb, Zadar, Split, Hvar and then a few days in Dubrovnik before we fly home to Scotland.

July 4th Cartmel and a visit to L’Enclume – A one night stay in the small village of Cartmel will also include a visit to one of the UK’s finest restaurants: Simon Rogan’s two Michelin starred L’Enclume. The restaurant was recently awarded 10/10 in the 2014 good food guide and named the best restaurant in the UK. A foodie paradise awaits, as we have booked in for the extraordinary twenty one plate tasting dinner.

Restaurant visits- With such a busy summer approaching, we have booked up in advance at a few of the countries best restaurants. In June we will be visiting Michelin starred Castle Terrace in Edinburgh for lunch, a firm favourite of ours so this is one we are really looking forward to reviewing for the first time. Then in August we are booked in for dinner at the only two Michelin starred restaurant in Scotland restaurant, Andrew Fairles at Gleneagles hotel. Another restaurant we really want to try soon is the newly opened ox and finch in Glasgow. Although we have not booked up yet we really hope to get along soon as the food looks fantastic.

As you can tell it’s a hectic but exciting few months coming up for us and it really can’t come soon enough. If anyone has been to any of the places or restaurants we are going to, feel free to leave a comment with any recommendations or advice.
