2014 Review

2014 was a great year for us; filled with great restaurant experiences and culinary marvels. We wanted to take look at some of the highlights from 2014 and our favourite restaurant visits.


This was a tough one for us, Edinburgh has gave us numerous great meals throughout the year. In the summer we had a highly enjoyable evening at Mark Greenaway’s Bistro Moderne. Despite being less established than Restaurant Mark Greenaway, the food was outstanding, especially the desserts. Edinburgh also gave us our best burger find of the year at the fantastic Burger Meats Bun. We were highly impressed with the burgers and sides and we will certainly be returning in 2015. We revisited two of our favourite restaurants The Kitchin and Castle Terrace, yet again we were blown away with the quality at both restaurants. With Edinburgh having an array of great restaurants, we will be venturing through to the Capital more often in 2015 to explore the dining scene further.

2014 has been a phenomenal year for the dining scene in Glasgow and we have had a few special meals within the city. Twice we enjoyed the delights at the award winning Cail Bruich. This is a restaurant we will certainly be keeping an eye on in 2015. The Gannet was awarded with a Michelin Bib Gourmand, where we agreed wholy with this title as our meal at The Gannet was highly enjoyable, and we loved the laidback surroundings. Towards the end of the year Martin Wishart opened a branch of his “The Honours” at the stunning Malmaison hotel. Despite dining just two weeks into opening we were thoroughly impressed by restaurant and fully expect big things from this establishment.

Rest of the UK

Despite mainly eating out in Edinburgh and Glasgow, we enjoy exploring other parts of the UK in search of amazing restaurants. Scotland’s only two Michelin star restaurant “Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles” gave us one of our meals of the year, in the truly stunning surroundings. In July we ventured to have probably our meal of the year at the fabulous L’enclume in Cartmel. The string of awards the restaurant has received are fully deserved as here you get an experience not many can match. Later in the year we had the pleasure of dining in two Michelin star restaurant “Sergi Arola Gastro” in Madrid. This was one of the best valued lunches we had all year and was certainly the highlight of our Madrid trip.

The only resolution we make is to aim to make each New Year better than the one before. We will be starting the year in style and spending four days in London. We plan to visit Michelin starred L’Autre Pied and Yauatcha, then on the third day we will visit our first three starred restaurant Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester. Closer to home we have a huge wish list to work through, which will keep us busy throughout the year. We wish everyone all the best for 2015 and hope it’s a happy and healthy year.
