Having had our fair share of afternoon teas since starting the blog, but we have yet to experience one worth writing about. This all changed after a visited to the absolutely fantastic 'Colonnades at the Signet Library'.
Despite being so close to the bustling Royal Mile, you wouldn't have the slightest clue from the minute you step into the beautiful and calm Signet Library. Our words wouldn't do the place justice, so have a look at our pictures of the Afternoon Tea experience at The Signet Library to see for yourself:
After the enjoyable pumpkin velouté, it was time to properly start the afternoon tea experience. Here is what we ate:
The savoury stand was first to be served and was filled with tempting choices. Everything we tried ranged in standard from good to excellent. The standout being the beautiful savoury beetroot cheesecake, we enjoyed it so much, we asked for a second helping. We must comment on the beautiful bespoke silver tea stands. These were very fitting for the stunning surroundings.
After an enjoyable break after the savoury stand, we were served our sweets and scones. Again the presentation of all the mini delights was fantastic. Our favourites were the superb spiced pumpkin macaroon, and the accurately baked passion fruit tart. Where all the food was accompanied by a menu of fresh teas which could be mixed and matched throughout the afternoon tea.
An afternoon tea costing £30 per head did seem rather expensive to us before our visit. Thankfully the experience was utterly fantastic, and we can now say it was money very well spent. The three of us each had two different pots of tea's, and two coffee's which were both included in the price. When you factor in the quality of the savoury and sweet treats, the surroundings and the fabulous service, you get more than your money's worth.
Edinburgh is a City full of tempting choices for luxury afternoon teas. For us the Signet Library is one of the most unique and exciting venues we have visited in the Capital. If it is an afternoon of sheer luxury that you are after, you must visit The Signet Library. We will see you there....
